Plane down near PDK
One person has died after a small plane crashed Friday morning at I-285 at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Traffic was shut down in both directions. According to Channel 2 Action News, the fire was extinguished, but there was very little wreckage left. Chamblee and Doraville police are on the scene. Yes, that's the one...this airport is a few miles from my office...285 shut down on both sides...so sad.
4 Confirmed Fatalities
4 fatalities confirmed. WSBTV news is reporting a Piper PA-32 that had trouble climbing out after taking off from runway 3L. Hit the south side of the I-285 median north of PDK.
Now saying runway 3R which makes more sense to me. 3R is shorter and more often used for light aircraft.
Nevermind...I seem have gotten confused. 3R is the longer runway.
3R/21L is actually the longer of the two parallel runways at PDK. But I seem to recall them frequently doing IFR departures on 3R even for light aircraft. Usually I'd be assigned 3L there, but I've used 3R a few times. That's a lot of runway for a PA28!
