WestJet Comes Out Strongly Against Air Transat-Air Canada Deal
Archrival to Air Canada, Canadian carrier WestJet has finally spoken out publicly on its rival’s acquisition of leisure carrier Air Transat. (simpleflying.com) Ещё...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
If WestJet was really concerned about "reduced competition" they would have spoken out BEFORE regulators approved the sale of Air Transat to Air Canada. The absorption of Air Transat into Air Canada results in a duopoly in air travel in Canada which is in the interest of WestJet and Air Canada. The only other viable third competitor is Porter Airlines which has been completely grounded during Covid and which I have doubts will survive. Unfortunately in Canada we consumers are screwed over by duopolies. In the telecom world we just have two companies that pretend to compete on phone and internet service but have pricing that is almost identical and is the highest pricing in the western world.
I should have added to my comment "does anyone really believe that Westjet is concerned about reduced competition?" Businesses THRIVE on reduced competition!
