7800nm, not to shabby! Though the aircraft can do ~8000nm on a full fuel load (about 227,500lbs) that means it's payload capacity is down from 113,000lbs to only about 35,000lbs in this config. Between fuel and payload being maxed it puts the aircraft about 80,000lbs (16%) over mtow. "Anything we can afford to lose, see that it's lost!"

According to BusinessWeek (http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-11-11/boeing-takes-dreamliner-tailwind-to-dubai-as-airbus-a350-slips.html) this is to be displayed at an airshow in Dubai.

It's interesting that its route avoids Russian and Iraqi airspace, but seems to have no trouble overflying Iranian airspace. Anyone know why this is?

I don't think they intentionally avoided them.

I dispatch for a GA operator out of YYZ. Last flight I sent to DXB was routed down to Cairo then through Saudi Arabia. Unless they've got enough insurance coverage to go over Turkey, through Iraq and straight in.

We're planning a trip to New Zealand from the US in a year or two. Hopefully, Air NZ will have received some of their 787s by then. Maybe they'll even consider ORD-AUK (7130 sm) with the aircraft's capabilities.

You may be in luck. There is a 787 heading there right now. I don't understand why the headline didn't mention that.

Speaking of AUK the 787 as BOE1 is also heading to NZAA as well.

The dream liner is making a show and tell flight today to New Zealand direct from Seattle. It will be arriving in approx 45mins. You can stream the footage on slipstream.co.nz. Air New Zealand will take delivery of the aircraft sometime in 2014. Jetstar will be the first Australasian airline to fly the 787.
