Bombardier's C-series

Размещено

The new Bombardier C-series is going to be made with carbon-fibers wings. Due to the carbon-fibers the plane will be lighter then its competitor the Boeing 737 and therefor more fuel efficient. The C-series will have features like the 787 and brand new A350 with larger cabin windows, more composite materials, and a lower cabin height. This plane will be able to seat 110-130 people with a maximum range of 5 463 km [2 950 mi] , with a typical cruise speed of mach.82 [870 Km\h, 541 mph]. It bothers me that they are talking lowerr cabin height. That is the main thing wrong with a CRJ of any type now. Not necessarily cabin height but window height. Their pax windows are noticeably lower causing just about anybody to have to bend or crick their neck to look out them. Noticable when put ub beside an ERJ of some type.

The window height is likely a function of the CRJ's heritage. It started out as the Challenger business jet and would have been designed with that type of interior. Couches or armchair type seats are lower that your standard airline seat. Probably would have been too expensive to redesign the fuselage to change the window height.

As for lower cabin height...I think something got lost in translation. The wikipedia link talks about lower cabin altitude (better pressurization).

Actually, the Bombardier CSeries will have a greater cabin height than the Embraer E-Jets. 200cm in the E-Jets, versus 213.4 cm in the CSeries planes.

"They," assuming you mean Bombardier, are not talking about a lower cabin height. This is only something the OP wrote. I believe what the Eric da Silva was trying to say is that the CSeries shares some features with the 787 and the A350, namely greater use of composite materials and larger cabin windows, but that the cabin height would be less than that of an A350 or 787.

Of course, it is true that the CSeries will have a lower cabin height than a 787 or an A350. However, this is comparing apples to oranges. The CSeries jets are small, single-aisle, regional aircraft, designed to carry 100-160 passengers. The A350 and 787 are long-range, twin-aisle, wide body jets. The 787 is designed for up to 290 passengers in the 787-9, and the A350 can carry as many as 500 in the A350-1000.

Headroom is fine. I am primarily talking about the actual window height itself in regard to sitting in the seat and looking outside

Searching around, I can't find any hard spec's on window height, but have a look at this photo of their mockup cabin. To me, those windows actually look quite high up, and big!

I agree that the CRJ window height is terrible. I'm glad that these new planes are looking significantly more comfortable.

I suppose that it might be a little unfair to compare the CSeries to the E-Jets. A better comparison might be to a DC9/MD80 series/MD90 series/717. Like those planes, the CSeries is designed for 2-3 seating in economy class.

Well, I have had occasion to fly out of KFSM on a CRJ200 in Delta Paint and an ERJ belonging to Eagle going down to DFW and there is a noticable difference. We have a CRJ200 now that was mod to corp config but they are all the same

I agree that the CRJ jets' window height is way too low.

I am talking about Bombardier's upcoming, new planes, the CSeries jets. These are not the CRJ planes you are talking about. They are a totally new and different plane.

CSeries≠CRJ
