Good on you. It's great to see someone young taking the initiative to do something their heart is set on rather than following the flock. I hope you have a safe trip and enjoy every minute as you are creating wonderful memories, not just for you but others that you meet and support and also those that support you.

I met him at an aviation expo in Boston. He's a great kid who is extremely intelligent.

How old is he compared to the Austrailian kid that holds the title now? He flew the SR-22 around the world and no one mentions him. He was 19 when he completed it.

Matt has to complete it prior to July 24 (the current record held by Australian Matt Campbell who completed the flight last September). If he completes it after that date, he'll be the second oldest to hold the record.

That's why he has to practically race the route.

Over the past 50 years there has been numerous pilots flying around the world some of them flying on unreliable navigation equipment, he can take off from any city climb to cruise altitude, set the autopilot and then doze off for the rest of the journey. Nothing worth reporting here.

His scenario is different. He's young, he's inexperienced. I would say its worth a read, Monsieur...

If he's inexperienced why the hell would any responsible parent or family member or flight instructor let him do this?

Is this that big a deal anymore?
