So had he not evaluated and they ended up with multiple casualties, those same slugs in suits would fall over themselves rushing to blame the captain. As it was they had a sprained ankle or two, but most of the bad publicity they created themselves.
And if memory serves me correct, he was fired by one of the two "execs" that flew the Fargo fiasco! I support the PIC - he made the decision and the company should abide by it. Still think they used this to send a message to their pilots.
You are right and it could be a very expensive lesson for them. It will be fun to watch the depositions of the company slugs and to read through the written and electronic material obtained by subpoena.
There was another thread about this. Apparently the person who told the pilot to hold the evacuation failed to identify themselves after repeated requests to do so. This op-ed piece presumes it was fire personnel giving the direction. Others have attributed it to Allegiant Management. Were I on the flight, my pick for final authority would be PIC. I hope the pilot can find a good job after the suit.
