AI sends brand new 787 Dreamliner back to factory as it fails test flights
A team of Air India pilots and engineers recently flew to Seattle to conduct test flights of a brand new 787 Dreamliner, supposed to be the national carrier’s 16th. “The aircraft from the very first test flight started giving problems, the most prominent being a problem with its landing gear,” a senior AI official told Hindustan Times on condition of anonymity. Considering AI's significant problems with operations (ask any of their expat pilots, current or former), managing money, etc., I'm skeptical of any criticism that comes out of New Delhi. Seems more likely a delaying tactic to avoid taking delivery of a ship they can't afford or reliably maintain.
They are very smart people - electronics etc - why don't they build their own?
You hit the nail on the head Dave. AI is a disaster right now and would probably be shut down if it was a US carrier. Any excuse to delay taking delivery of an aircraft they can't afford seems to be the order of the day. I don't know if there was in fact a problem but it wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to "discover" a reason to delay the handover.
its almost like a competition now days with plane makers , who can get that plane up in the air the quickest , so they can remain on top , well guess what , im not in a hurry to die , so take your time and do it right !

you said it , they are very smart people , the airline may be broke but the last thing they need is a plane falling out of the sky , cause the battery caught fire or landing gear wont go down ,so far three airlines had problems with this aircraft , japan airlines fire was a disaster in the making , thank god it happened on the ground .
