on a visit to the hawaiian islands several years back, i took a helicopter tour of the islands with one of the big tour operators at the time..they were well known and had a great safety record...the "choppers " used were comfortable, large, and the pilot knew the islands well,as he gave us the explanation of various sites like waterfalls and farms and mountain sides..the most memorable thing was he pointed out jim neigbors mountainside home that overlooked a beautiful cliff and waterfall..i never felt the trip was unsafe, and the entire tour i believe was around 2 hours..worth every penny as those trips are not cheap!

i dont see anything wrong with this at all! people have gotten very "me first" selfish about everything, and especially on airplanes..you expect professionalism and courtesy from the flight crew,so why should it not go the other direction?i have been on flights, long before political issues or divisiveness were the norm, and had pilots make the announcement that the f/a's were on board mainly to provide for the safety and comfort of the passengers,so please be nice or respectful..never heard any complaints then, and it should be more applicable now! bravo to this captain as if there is any sort of hassle or fight or whatever, its his plane, his crew and the rest of the passengers he has to take care of (along with air marshalls if they happen to be on board!)..

by the way, that picture with the article is NOT one of the passenger written about, but a "stock photo" of a coach passenger with a bit of a belly strapped comfortably into a seat..!

my goodness! he was in a first class seat and they had to remove a door to get him out??how large was this person?in coach i know passengers are requested if a flight is going to be full, to purchase 2 seats..when not full, an agent usually will try to seat the person with no one next to him/her where they can raise the armrests..planes today are "squishing" people topgether in smaller seats, with not only less movement, but less legroom, and despite calls to change that, nothing is happening..oh well..

nice gesture..i have seen it done on a grander scale, but im sure the captain appreciated it none the less..

the news reports from the scene on a fairly sunny morning stated that area is prone to lots of early morning fog,and that is a serious possiblity of visibility issues for the pilot..

MERGERS HAVE BEEN THE "NAME OF THE GAME" FOR A LOT OF YEARS NOW,AND IT HAS ALWAYS SEEMED TO BE A 50/50 SITUATION WITH LOTS OF BAD AND LOTS OF GOOD..saves some companies from liqiudation,or rescues a bankrupt one,but in transition, the employees suffer and so do loyal passengers..we shall see...

wow..that is quite the paint job! remenber when southwest airlines used to have at least one airplane painted differently or with a message to carry? thats been a while..in any case, american used to handle alaska airlines at the city where i worked, and i always loved the paint jobs which had an alaska themed something on the tail..from an eskimo face to a bear..that was the old alaska airlines however..

THE 30.000 MILES MAY SOUND GREAT AS A COMPENSATION,BUT THEY ARE NOT REALLY..EVEN THIS ARTICLE SAYS THE WORTH OF THIS IS AROUND 360$,WHICH IN MANY CASES IS JUST A ONE WAY TICKET..ALSO,THE DAYS ,TIMES AND DATES OF AVAILABILITY TO USE FREQUENT FLYER MILES ON ANY AIRLRLINE IS LIMITED,SO NO TRIP FOR CHRISTMAS OR THANKSGIVING,OR EVEN WEEKENDS IN A LOT OF CASES..
