Just like all of us.. be patient.. flying will return.. people will want to get away asap.. others will return to work, then plan extended vacations.. cabin fever has set in, we got a few more months to go..
I have a FlightAware ADSB receiver at my house in Central Florida. The range of my antenna setup is a radius of about 230nm. My usual 24hour tally of flights is between 3,800 to 4,200. On March 13, I tracked more than 4,000 flights. On April 1 the count was Less than 1,800. By the way, Sun’N Fun 2020 has been cancelled, so my April total will be far below the usual.
No need to wait. You can go flying now. Unless some local/state government entity has tried to close your local airport. But, in general, all airports are open and the ATC is functioning.
Yes, private aircraft can still fly. Private aircraft are playing an important role in delivering much needed medical supplies. The question is, is the pilot allowed in their state/city allowed to leave home and go to the airport.
HaHa. I am trying to envision taking a train from Washington D.C. (IAD) to London (LHR) or from IAD to Tokyo (NRT). I make those trips a couple of times a year and would like to continue to do so. You've been listening to AOC too much.
The sky’s over Los Angeles have way less traffic according to flightaware Flightradar24, and from reports from folks who have been to LAX and report a ghost town there. A high percentage of flights are Cargo and international.
That is a good thing - for lives anyway. May not be as good for the airlines. But, I don't think people are taking this pandemic seriously enough. I pray that states are not opening up too soon.
Face coverings are a necessary protection for everyone. The numbers of people who have died make this virus a deadly killer. Individual rights are important to everyone. Everyone wants the freedom to live without fear of being killed by someone or something. Wear the mask, it won't kill you ... not wearing one might.
Never forget that Chinese Officials and Population HATE the FREE Western Nations. I would NEVER put ANYTHING PASSED Officials in China! We moved to the Philippines in 2009 from St. Louis. The Chinese treat Filipinos WORSE THAN DOGS! Look up videos on Chinese Treatment of Filipinos.
Chinese HATRED is overshadowed by the visceral HATRED that is spewed by Americans. HATRED of Blacks and Mexicans, HATRED of your neighbours, HATRED of the Left in political circles. Take a good look at yourself, before you accuse the Chinese of extreme HATRED. The American solution to HATRED is to go get your firearm and MURDER multiple numbers of your co-workers, schoolchildren, family, or just random people in the street. America is the sickest society on the planet, yet you claim to be Gods favourite nation? What a joke.
Really sounds like a Chinese agent. Or Russian. I believe Chinese. These folks murder people for their organs. They are the racist. Just look at the Durga, not sure how to spell. They preformed genocide on them. They will do this on the Urgar. The ones who helped the Chinese with this genocide.
Yes. As can Recreational, Commercial and ATP pilots. Not to mention the Light Sports crowd. Just took a look at Flightaware and its showing 2250 flights in the air in the U.S.. I saw Beech, Cessna, Piper, Boeing, Airbus, and a bunch more makes and models. Presumably some are being operated by private Pilots. My advice is go have some fun. Be safe. Practice social distancing while taxing and airborne.
Perhaps it should remain this way permanently; air travel is one of the worst contributors of global warming greenhouse gas emissions there is. This is a good time to cut air travel and to consider trains instead.
Do you think that people would really take a week to go by train from Europe to the US? By the time they got to the US, they would have to turn around and go back. The fact that a flight from ATL to Heathrow is about 8 hours compared to a week means people would go by plane instead of train.
To carry as many people in a day that aircraft do, that would mean thousands of new miles of railroad track to be placed, just for passenger trains as well as a vastly larger number of trains to replace said aircraft. Trains would also always run, even when in station at a major point of departure. Aircraft can shut down an engine to taxi with just one, and most of all, axial flow engines (jet engines of all types) are more efficient than gas or diesel engines.
I don’t know about axial flow engines, and I don’t think planes using one engine is practical.
The main point i was making is that a time of crises is as good a time as any to step back and re-evaluate what we’ve normalized/taken for granted, and perhaps could be made better. I realize the controversy of this on an airplane enthusiastic site, but I’m not suggesting getting rid of air travel, only replacing it where it could be done with more energy efficiency. We have the ability to build high speed clean rail between cities where practical, and ppl can hold virtual meetings in lieu of always flying. This applies to driving to work every day too.
There are airlines that taxi from the gate on one engine and start it up as they are waiting in line for departure all the time. Four engined airliners could taxi on just two if they wanted. Axial flow is the path taken by air through an engine. All jet engines are axial flow. They are 100% efficient compared to rotating-reciprical engines that are found on any terrestrial bound vehicle.
While it is better to drive for short trips, say under 400 miles, over that, flight is the better option. Even all electric trains are a cause for pollution due to the generating stations needed to feed said lines such as the Northeast Corridor that Amtrak runs.
Sorry, but air travel is here to stay. Trains are not an economical alternative to air travel, or we would all be in line at Union Station to take the Super Chief to Chicago instead of at LAX waiting for a B77. The economy is that the B77 is already on its way back from Chicago before the Super Chief has left California. No one really has the time for intercity train travel. I love trains, I have a live steam engine and enjoy a good steam up. Trains are great in small towns like New York for inner city travel, and to get to the airport.
I understand and I’m not suggesting we shut down air travel, only that a time of crises is as good as any to step back and re-asses what we’ve normalized/ taken for granted, and to consider investing in high speed clean rail when we can, and Holding virtual conferences in lieu of flying all over the place every day. Btw same principles apply to driving as well.
I know a guy who (before all this mayhem) flew around twice a week ie: from boston to washington dc, all over, just to attend a conference or sign a book.
I hope that crashes like AF447 (Paris Rio) won't happen again after a lot of planes made for flying and not being parked have no Pitot probes uncovered
I would bet a weeks salary pitot tube covers are standard AND required for long=term idle aircraft. Besides AF447 did not happen because something happened to the airspeed indication system on the ground. It happened at altitude.
