So how does it make the students in all those flight schools who are washing aircraft to pay for another lesson feel now that the government will pay for rotor conversion to fixed wing for free?
Maybe it makes them feel like they should join the Army and fly combat missions over Afghanistan.
While true, it always makes one pause for a minute on how everyone cannot be in the military. There are thousands of people who pay for their own education only to have another government sponsored employee take the job and with a military pension to boot paid for by the same individuals they replace. Love and respect the military but after 20 in, to jump the cue? Remember it’s the working civilian that pays for all the military. It’s also a moot point due the real shortage of qualified pilots. Interesting that you would denigrate those not in the miliary when they pay all the bills?
No. I thought something didn’t seem right, and after rereading the article it turns out that it was you. The government is not paying for conversion training, the airlines are. These Army helicopter pilots, about who the article was written, are already trained to fly under demanding conditions. A plane-washing big smasher is not. So yes, they get to jump the line. I’m not denigrating anyone, this is merely a case of businesses finding and utilizing market efficiencies.

Well get over yourself and just because you didn't go in the service don't get you panties in a bunch over it. Flying for the military is a job and very dangerous to boot. Why didn't you go in? If you did you could get benefits and if QUAIFIED and get your flight lessons paid for. You think it was all fun and games the flying they did?
