Canada needs to wean itself off the U.S. in connection to everything and that includes military. Clearly, the ties that bind have been severely frayed if not cut. And with Boeing's stunt on the C-Series, the last thing I want is to see a big contract given to Boeing. The typhoon is a very capable jet so its not like we have to pick something crappy.

yep stick it to Boeing. Let them cry.

Jim, does the Typhoon have "super-cruise capability. I believe I found this little gem on the MILITARY CHANNEL. You don't need American gear which is still a little bit wonky with the design bugs still in place.

TYPHOON IS NUMBER ONE FOR THE RCAF. THE RAFAEL IS A CLOSE SECOND, BOEING LAST!

One other critical point is that we will build them in CANADA with CANADIAN WORKERS WHICH MEANS MORE JOBS FOR CANADIANS NOT THE AMERICANS. THEY WILL PARTICIPATE AT SOME LEVELS BECAUSE OF THEIR EXPERTISE WITH HIGN PERFORMANCE GAS TURBINES. ITS A GLOBAL EFFORT NOW JUST DIFFERENT SOURCES.

Can you PLEASE stop typing in all caps!

cool it.. some of us have vision problems

Thanks for that Jim. I think their is a false perception of pilots and eyesight. Pilots are merely mortal.

My glasses are broken and it is easier in large print with my magnifying glasses. I am sorry for the inconvenience that I may have caused and I apologize to all members who are terribly upset.

Agreed. Calm down man otherwise you risk being marginalized as irrelevant. And if you are certain these aircraft will indeed be built in Canada well good luck.

Hi Dan, I use caps for emphasis since I don't have an under-linning capability. I am neither stressed or angry. If I were angry I will tell you. But I am a very happy person. Jeff don't lose any sleep over all of this because it's a great site for the pros or amateurs. It's meant for fun and education. As for grammar this tablet is hard to punctuate. You can only accomplish any task if you had the resources

It's an interface issue. Brain to keyboard interface.

Hey Jeff this ain’t Facebook and we don’t come here to argue and be rude. Well maybe some arguing with those Typhoon fans but all in good fun. So if Cansoir or anyone gets their cap locks stuck just let it go, it’s the message that matters. Now let’s get back to the debate.... why would anyone want the Typhoon over a better all around aircraft like the Gripen?

Why would you want an F5 over an F15
Cansojr
Cansojr 1
Justin's daddy is responsible for that. The F-5 is fun to fly though.

Why wpuld you bother with a Superhornet when you could have a Typhoon with supercruise and a very low radar profile.

So now this will come due just befor an election and become a political football that may or may not go through. We need to get politics out there f military procurement and look after our men and women who serve in the armed forces. This has been dragging on for way too long and our Canadian pilots are flying old junk.

Yes, the average hours on the CDN F-18's is around 7,000 hours or more. There are some parts are no longer made. In typical Canadian tradition we wait till the last minute before buying. For the manufacturers have the RCAF by the short and curries. The dumb Canadian will accept any price because they know we are desperate.

In terms of 4.5 gen aircraft the ranking would be #3 grifen ng, #2 Rafale, #1 Typhoon/Eurofighter

The best comparison would be F5, F18, F15

Grifen single engine lowest weight/payload/range
Rafaletwin engine good payload, good range
typhoon twin, good loadout, fantastic range

Look up Rafale vs F22 the guy pushes the Raptor around like a border collie does sheep.
The Typhoon is even better.

Rafael is the only way to go. Outperform any 4th generation Boeing aircraft, Two engines for Artic patrols. I believe they have already said assembly would be in Canada.

How does it stack up against the Typhoon?
Cansojr
Cansojr 2
The Typhoon is a twin with super-cruise so you don't burn-up your fuel too quickly by using re-heat. Does the Rafael have super-cruise? It's a real mission efficient to conserve fuel and still obtain a good mach number.

When will the option for a pilotless fighter option become a reality? Started with recon (ie: drones), next IMHO will be cargo then fighters? Thoughts? The boys with toys (ie military) will not easily let go of their role. Surely we must be turning a corner in going pilotless for all types of aviation/military needs.

Does the option exist to purchase from brokers/lease agents such as found in the airline world (ex: GECAS)? Trainers aside, are the needs and requirements (perceived or true as identified by the "boys with toys" (ie: military)) so unique that the purchaser has to go directly to the manufacturer? If the drag along benefits of using local (ie: country of purchase companies to fulfill some degree of contribution in assembly) are backed out, any idea how much cheaper (in %) the aircraft would be? I refuse to believe that these nice to have and political thrown ins are free. Thoughts?

Based on this late 2018 news release, looks like a top contender outside the USA has has had enough of the Cdn. procurement process. Considering the Gripen E appears to lead only in the area of price, may be a Typhoon vs F35 street fight.
