This article is stupid. The writer purports that the 787 is inferior and an engineering failure because there are more 777s flying long hauls than the Dreamer, and also, because the cabin configuration he most recently flew on the 787 was not as nice as the A350. Poppycock!
I agree with you the Author of the article appears to be all over the place in the article. It requires several readings to fully understand what point he is trying to make. Poorly written overall.
It appears he/she (you never know with people's names nowadays) has no engineering background but rather how he/she felt while flying in the cabin area.
For the Author, I fully expected to read an article filled with facts on engineering specs rather than an article written out personal / google filled opinions.

Bad article, lousy writer. The headline suggests that the 787 did not meet promises in the economics if its operation? or perhaps that Boing has not seen yet a single cent in profits in the sale of the 787? of the it continues having expensive problems with the Li batteries? ditto with the Trent engined ones.
