HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities say an armed man at a Bush Intercontinental Airport ticket counter shot and killed himself this afternoon. No one else was injured. At around 1:35pm Houston police say they were called to a "discharge of firearm" at Terminal B. They say an armed male was at the ticket counter when he pulled out a gun and committed suicide. According to police, they are not looking for anyone else at the airport who may be involved in the shooting. The FAA has issued a… (abclocal.go.com) Ещё...

Excellent illustration of the fact that having the TSA strip search everyone before they can get to the boarding gates is a ridiculous waste of time. This fellow could just as easily have blown himself up inside the airport. If he wanted a bigger crowd than the ticket counter, there's always the line waiting to go through security.

The sole purpose of the security checkpoints before the gates is to keep armed people off airplanes so they can't commandeer them or blow them up. They aren't meant to provide security for the entire airport.

The point here is this: Who needs to blow up a plane with only a hundred or so onboard when there are three hundred people you can blow up waiting in line for the TSA to screen?

Add in the TSA's own recent tests that allowed an undercover officer to get to the gate with a fake bomb strapped to his his thigh...

HUGE waste of money.

Or perhaps an indication that we need stronger gun laws, regardless of where this happened?? Nahhh... that's not gonna solve anything <face palm>

Please educate yourself on the laws already on the books that are currently not being enforced. From a family of police officers, I cannot stress this enough.
More laws, yes, more laws will fix this!

The point however is clear. In the modern world we are not looking for the expected - and TSA is fighting yesterdays battles. Some nut (Reid) has a bomb in his shoe...we now take off our shoes (never finding another issue such as a shoe bomb). We can now carry on pool cues, hockey sticks and some hair spray...with our nail clippers and short knives. Hell, just the other day my friend went from MIA to AUA with two glass bottles of liquor and another two of wine IN HER CARRY ON (purchased at Duty Free). Is that potential broken class and intoxicated flier not a potential issue.

It is only a matter of time that the more we give press and pontificate about "gun laws" and strip searches....if a nut wants to be a nut they are going to be a nut. Nutting we can do about it. This may could have as easily walked into a mall or a movie theater to "prove his point"...we wanted to be original and go for an airport (far before security)...got his name in the news. The most typical goal of the nuts.

Sounds like a 'suicide by cop' attempt. KIAH just the venue. Sad
