As per the article, BA obviously knew, but nobody was brave enough to inform the boss!

Sounds like there might be a new proponent of a Thames River airport.
There is no way that I believe that the CEO of BA just found out about the new runway. This is an 11th hour appeal to the media to stop the plan to build the 3rd runway which is highly controversial and very unpopular with most of the locals who live in the area.
Another born-again NIMBY proponent.
