Boeing has to decide for the 797: Comfort or Freight Capacity?

Размещено

Chicago - Boeing has to answer a critical question before starting the nine-billion dollar development program for its new mid-market airplane. Whose needs should be met with the new aircraft? Major American airlines want comfort while the Asians want more cargo space. (airlinerwatch.com) Ещё...

Whatever Boeing come up with, every airline that buys this plane will do its best to squeeze as many thin hard uncomfortable seats into it. Comfort??? Not likely.

Oh for crissakes stop deluding us. The minute this thing rolls out of the hangar the airlines will do all possible to try to cram 400 seats into this thing.

Just wondering... what design number will the next one be?

"7117"? Or, start over with the 707? It's at least a decade out but who knows?

A passenger aircraft's built primarily to move passengers and their baggage from point A to point B. Freight capacity should be secondary concern. If you have to move freight, buy a freighter!

Design work...a whole different fuselage from what I see.

like Rosana R'osana-donna (gilda radner)used to say, "nevermind". I neglected to recall the improbabilites with making an airframe having more cargo capacity. We gotta put the passengers, in sufficient numbers, somewhere on the plane. so Nevermind...

if not too much design work, can this 797 be built in both a models- ;north american airlines, and a b model for the asian market with more room for cargo?
something for everybody ....

Boeing's born-as-freighter 747F's have been significantly different aircraft than the passenger models: heavier flooring; PDU units to move pallets/containers; collapsible cockpit-upper deck stairs to facilitate through-the-nose loading; a side cargo door and, exclusive to the born-as-freighter 747's: nose-loading capability. A great many boneyard pax config aircraft were retrofitted to have PDU's and side-load freight doors, but the BCF conversions were never the same airplane. A dual version is a more expensive launch.

Usually, higher number suffixes pertain to passenger capacity and/or range.
