Malaysian Airlines temporarily bans checked baggage
Malaysia Airlines has imposed a ban on checked-in baggage on its flights from Kuala Lumpur to Europe, citing safety and "strong head winds" as the reasons for the measure. Economy passengers will only be allowed cabin baggage of up to 7 kilograms, while Business/First passengers can take two pieces on board totalling 14kg, the airline said on its website. Next step, ban on passengers with non-refundable tickets. That should save some weight.
YES IT IS A VERY GOOD IDEA TO IMPOSE THESE RESTRICTION AS IT WILL IMPROVE SAFETY STANDARDS

I'm guessing routing via Egypt would add another 400-500 miles to get to London and would require 15.5 hours with an average headwind of 90kts. With a range of 7200nm On the B777, I think that might cut it close. I think the great circle dist is 6200. Might be easier and cheaper to do a tech stop and fly at HSC.
The link in the article to Malaysian Airlines website has been removed. I wonder if this isn't some kind of hoax?
