Someone forgot not one or two but three Boeing 747 jumbo jets at Kuala Lumpur Airport

Submitted
Kuala Lumpur International Airport has seen just about everything, but nothing quite prepared it for the morning in December 2015 when it woke up on the front pages of newspapers around the world. The story was too strange to ignore. Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad had taken out an advert in The Star politely asking the public a question no major airport should ever have to ask. In plain print, beneath three photos of jumbo jets, it basically said: if these Boeing 747s are yours, please come… (luxurylaunches.com) More...

What I leant from this is that it costs me ten times as much to park my car at London Heathrow than it costs Air India to park a 747 at Kolkata.

So they never found out who the owner was? TF is Icelandic registration.

I recall seeing those planes there for years, always wondering what they were.

So if someone else went there and took them, no one would care, right? Damn I could've had a 747 for a second vacation home

Should have hooked a tug up to them and pushed them to edge of airport property……stuck in the mud.

I remember these planes from the mid '90s. They were operated by Air Atlanta Icelandic.

Yes! I used to be based in KUL from time to time when forced to go overseas for work. KLIA and Malaysia were great. Those three 747 Classics were all freighters, Icelandic-registered and used to support MAS - Malaysian Airline System as supplementary airlift. Some were even in full Malaysian Airlines logo and colors as they were on long, 3-year contracts. All operations were ACMI contracts - Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance & Insurance provided to the airline in question.
I have all three in my logbook during the 2.5 years I was with the crew leasing agency as a contract pilot. Air Atlanta even paid for my type rating which was conducted in MIA for US pilots on contract. Pilots came from all over the world, kinda like United Nations!
Although they were registered TF- and operated as Air Atlanta Icelandic, not sure whether that’s who owned them. Further research required. But I’m not surprised two of them ended up in China. Many if our cargo routes out of KUL were to China and only 2-3 hours flight time……good memories!

I'm guessing they didn't use Google Maps Automatic Save Parking Location feature

When my wife goes shopping at the mall I usually stay home. But I’d follow her to that beautiful Coach 747 any time.
