Boeing 737-800 (N915NN) - American's N915NN (in TWA heritage livery) taxies south on Bravo for a midafternoon departure to Dallas on 35L.br /Apparently, some aspect of the forward edge of the TWA paint on the empennage needed repair or replacing and the replacement paint scheme was the standard American "flag" design. And this "replacement" was performed on both sides. I'm curious as to why the replacement was needed because a photo posted by "hombrej" just four months ago (before that replacement strip was applied) shows nothing unusual on the forward area of the TWA paint "patch."

Interestingly, the standard American Airlines tail scheme "strip" that has been "installed" on both sides of the empennage was performed within the past four months. FlightAware photo member "hombrej" posted a pic of N915NN four months ago that shows the tail without that "replacement" strip. Then, three months ago, "hombrej" posted another pic of N915NN that shows the strip in place, so sometime between his two outstanding pictures, the replacement was performed. Daniel Jef's excellent picture of N915NN, posted two months ago, also shows the strip in place on the tail. The most recently posted photo (by AtlFalcons) does not show the replacement strip so that photo, although posted just a month ago, was taken over 3 months ago.
