Pregnant Goonie bird ? C-46
Nicholas Marino
HI, this was the first aircraft I was made flight engineer on. The SQ then moved on to the C-119 and finally the C-123. I miss those days. There is an airline company in alaska that still flies the Commando

Is it Buffalo airlaine that still flies thé commando ?

Speaks volumes about how well engineered this tough old bird must be to be operating around 80 years after it was built in a cold climate like Alaska.

Good pic of an historic aircraft.

@Gilles Lavoie According to their web site, Buffalo has 2 C-46, C-FAVO and C-GTPO.

I understand EVERTS Fluel Service's two C-46 are now out of service and "in storage".
And that Buffalo Air only has one flying.
Unfortunately, they are slowly disappearing.
Do not have as many folks trying to save them and keep them flying as the C-47/DC-3.

Very interesting aircraft. Thanks King.

A real airplane, and it looks loaded, too. Nice but unusual spinners.

I remember this image from its original posting and wondering how much longer Everts would continue flying these relics of a past age. I see @FJ Mendez even thought they were in "storage" and lamenting the end of an era. Good news that Flight aware shows that N1837M is hard at work (still/again?) with what appears to be a full flight schedule delivering the goods!

At first glance, I thought that this might be N1822M, one of Everts Air Fuel rigs, which I last saw at Kenai, AK Airport (south of Anchorage), about ten years ago, where they hauled fuel in that area. I had often loaded (military contract) cargo on it, at Elmendorf AFB Aerial Port — and was delighted to have flown in it a few times — when it belonged to Reeve Aleutian Airways in the 1970s. Everts converted it to a bulk fueler, and it was fantastic to still see it making money with those wonderfully sounding R-2800s.

When I was a teenager, a freightline would bring parts for General Motors assembly plant in Arlington to Love Field for the next day's production.
