Lockheed developed and test flew a handful of the AH-56A Cheyenne Advanced Attach Helicopter concept aircraft with similar characteristics of this design, the typical rotor system of a helicopter plus a pusher prop for high speed cruise. It ultimately was unsuccessful in winning a production contract with the DOD due to stability problems at high speeds. With the technologies and materials available now, some 50 years later after the 1967 first flight of the AH-56A, Lockheed's basic concept could be made into a successful aircraft.
