Maybe we should look the other way at the situation. Knowing that a no-bid contract was not possible, they may well have waited until the only available slot on such short notice was the vender these bureaucrats wanted to use to begin. Now, no other vender has availability on such short notice.

Spirit Airlines? Or is that cruel and unusual punishment?

AAR in OKC will be happy to rubber stamp the inspection for a fee.

LOL, you just don't know how true of a statement that is.... We stopped using them for Heavy Maintenance... We had a standing policy not to allow the next plane go into heavy until the first one made its first flight, once a captain called up picking up a completed and signed off a/c to state that is PFD was not installed in the a/c, another one the forward entry door was so badly out of rig they could not close the door, and the list goes on... I understand the FAA got involved with them as well. We had to ground 1/2 our fleet as they were using substandard hardware to comply with an AD on the Main Landing Gear. I think they lost their certificate for a period of time over that one, and was when we stopped using them.

They need to do the Heavy Maintenance on these planes.... I would not want these planes to crash and kill innocent people on the ground, or have a crash landing where criminals are on the loose...

Who was funny.... Just don't want to see a plane full of criminals surviving a plane crash only to escape across the country side.... Lost a sea.. Well that is another issue :)

They need to do the Heavy Maintenance..... I would hate to see one of these planes drop in on innocent people, or have a crash landing where only prisoners are on the loose...

N639CS due on Sept 1. that is 22 days. Unless there is a " good old boy buddy" standing in the wings, I didn't know the government could move that fast. Somebody slipped up.

Kinda got that message from the article too. Somebodies maintenance tracking is just about as shoddy as the usual federal program. And airframe #2 is right behind it!

Maybe it was an effect of sequestration. Bean counters looking at the list: A check, B check, C check, D check. They all know priority A is higher than B or C, so maybe they figured they'll do A & B and save on C till the sequestration ends. That way they still have enough to re-carpet the DC offices.

Sounds as logical as anything and heaven knows logic is the last factor involved where these decisions are made.

Sorry Joel, a C check is not enough to carpet a government office in DC.

So what should one budget for 2 73 C checks? I'll bet it's quite a bit less than this emergency contract will go for. Some years ago Cal Fish& Game had a budget crunch which limited Wardens to 50 miles per week for patrol- their HQ re-carpet bill was $6 mil.

Semmes like they have been under contract with somebody for the routine stuff but somebody all of a sudden decided " Hey what about these C checks coming up". Seems to me that ain't no light thing on a 737. Besides the engine teardown there is a gear pull and everything. Most Airlines use the time for interior refurbishing as well. I doubt they'll be worried about it on these. What I am curious about, with 15 days or so apart, with only 2 aircraft, what they gonna do in the downtime.

The prisoners will walk, and the guards will fly commercial.

Well, they are 40 days apart and according to the article, will take them out of service 3-5 days, going to 5 or longer if they find anything. Is this the successor to Con-Air and their 727's?

I think con-air was CIA backed and these guys are DOJ. They might get em done in 3 to 5 if they have SWA do em! LOL
