I would not be surprised to see the DOD in the new Administration look seriously at acquiring some of the retiring 744's for the purpose of moving US personnel around the world and the USA. Currently they charter but continue to upgrade older aircraft.
Many of the 744's are being retired because of operating costs not aircraft life by the airlines but might be a good investment for the Air Force taking the spares off the airline's hands as well. This new Administration is very likely to have a new cost conscious attitude that it needs to look at this cost vs shiny new aircraft cost/upgrade and maintenance of old aircraft/price of chartering.
