Lufthansa CEO Advocates Random Psychological Tests For Pilots
Random checks of pilots' psychological fitness could help reduce risks in the aviation sector, Lufthansa chief executive Carsten Spohr said in his first newspaper interview since the crash of a Germanwings plane in March. These tests will be just about as accurate as "short arm" inspections were for hidden venereal disease were in WWII. They will be mostly an annoyance factor for the 99.9999% of completely normal pilots and will most likely miss the rare psychopath. The money would be better spent on a fail-safe opener for any pilot out of the cockpit and a requirement for a second individual remain with a single pilot.
I personal don't think that you can test for everything. Some stuff is just going to happen and as John says, would just be an annoyance to the other pilots.
For some reason, the name Cpt. Yossarian comes to mind.
Remember Psychology is the most precise of the occult sciences...Yossarian would probably pass while normal individuals would be singled out.
