Bidders hone offers as Canada extends search and rescue deadline
So far, only Airbus Defence & Space and Alenia Aermacchi – along with their Canadian partners – have confirmed their participation in the FWSAR contest, offering the C295 and C-27J Spartan, respectively. However, Embraer and Lockheed Martin may also respond to the tender. Don't know why there is no bid from Bombardier with a proven record in the cold environment and STOL capability to get in and out of small airports under bad conditions just like the Buffalo has done for many years. The DASH 8 is a great platform with a long record of partnering with P&W. They keep talking about Canadian content for ships but ignore that principle here.
Bidders beware....Canadian military procurement practices at work here....the process will go on for 20 years, meanwhile the Hercs and Buffaloes will continue to get the job done.
